WORKSHOPS - 2018
2 day Landscape Painting Workshop 20/21 September 2018 at Spelsbury Village Hall, Church Lane,Spelsbury, OX7 3RJ
An exploration of abstraction and expressive mark making in relation to the local landscape.
Using a range of media to include inks, water soluble paints (oils, acrylic, watercolours) oil pastels, soft pastels, collage, graphite, charcoal.
The first day is designed to help you ‘loosen up’ with activities to develop creative and expressive mark-making.
The second day will begin with a look at the work of some contemporary abstract landscape painters including Ivon Hitchens, John Piper, Fiona MacIntyre, Kurt Jackson and Frank Aurbach . Their use of composition and colour, mark-making and technique can inform and inspire. During this day you will make a series of small semi-abstract landscape paintings, and you may start a larger piece.
There is an option to book a third day. You may want to continue to develop ideas begun in the previous two days, or bring other work to finish with the advice and support of a tutor.
Not suitable for beginners.
£150 for two days. 10.00- 4.00pm Contact me to book and for further details
Artist Lin Kerr's reflections after the Abstracting the Landscape course held in April 2018
"Thank you so much for the Abstracted Landscape course you ran this week. It was perfect for me - I feel very inspired by it and it gave me just the push I needed to help me work out where I am going" EG August 2016
"I have filled 3 sketchbooks and finished 5 paintings since your fab course" CY June 2017
A series of one and two-day workshops designed for people who would like to work in a more expressive way or want to ‘loosen up’.
Does it take you months to fill a sketchbook? I will show you how to make and keep quick visual notes and then how to develop them into finished pieces.
At the end of each course you should be able to take away a number of black and white studies and maybe some finished abstract landscape compositions.
Suitable for all abilities, the only requirement is an experimental approach.
Workshops take place throughout North Oxfordshire. Places fill very quickly. If you think you might like to attend a course, please contact me.
